February 19,
2002, SEATTLE, WA - Summoned to a frenzied late night recording session last Saturday at Octothorpe Studios, the Collective videotaped a heart-felt rendition of the song that put them on the map, "Been to China". Bro arrived at Seattle's Rosebud Theatre in the heart of Seattle's Wallingford district via OctoVan at two Sunday afternoon, dropping off the tape minutes before the submission deadline. It all paid off Sunday night when, by popular vote, "Been to China" won the Golden Lips award for best Music Video at the 16th Annual Cinemaniacs Film and Video Festival. |
In a statement to this reporter obliquely referencing the competition, festival director Paul D. Goetz stated: "I'd just like to say that Octothorpe's "Been to China" is better than sex! Better than a roll in the hay with a transvestite!", then added "But seriously, Octothorpe's new music video, "Been to China", stunned the audience at the 16th Annual Cinemaniacs Video-Film Festival, picking up our audience award, The Golden Lips. While I can't reveal the final vote tally, I will say that it is obvious to all the staff here that Octothorpe is an emerging talent to be reckoned with. You get the feeling they could win several Golden Lips awards in a row. They will certainly be welcome to enter a performance in the 2003 festival". |
