A project to bring engineering and invention to the elementary school classroom, developed by Tufts University and NASA.
The
main goal of the LDAPS project is to teach engineering in elementary
school. Children are naturally curious and eager to explore, build and
create, making engineering a very popular subject. Further, by integrating
math, science, reading, and writing, engineering projects give the
students an interdisciplinary approach to learning. In the LDAPS project,
we work withe elementary school teachers across the nation to develop and
test engineering curricula. So far, we have had outstanding responses from
teachers, students, and parents - with children staying in from recess to
finish their construction, difficult kids behaving, and with girls showing
just as much interest and enthusiasm as the boys.
At our web site, we
highlight some of the teaching approaches, ideas, and experiences. -
